Highlights:

Makeup is after all just play with lights and shadows, and to use lighter shades to bring certain
spots up more than others, and other points are made darker, so that they look like they’re deeper.

My highlight spots are in the inner corner of the eye, in the middle of the lid, and on the brow bone.

Different eyeshadow shapes:

There are countless ways how you can use your shadows, by mixing different colors, different textures,
and glitters, but here’s some ideas were to apply your makeup’s darkest shade:

 Inner corner:

You can add darker shadow only to inner corner of your lid, which seems reduce the space between the eyes.

 Outer corner:

If your eyes are close to each other, this may make them look further away from each other.
I have used this often, even though I don’t think I have close-set eyes, so I think this suits for other eye
types too.

Both corners:

I think this one is great for everyone,  it can be easily used in both dramatic looks with bold
colors, and with natural everyday looks with neutral colors. It doesn’t make
eyes look wider or smaller, and I think it suits for all eye types.

Outer corner, “catshape”:

Make eye look a bit tilted upwards, which creates a bit mysterious look. Also, if your lids
are bit droopy, this might bring them the “boost” they need.

Outer corner & crease, blended upwards:

This is my own favourite.
Darker shadow is applied to outer  corner and crease, then blended up towards the brow, where it
meets the highlighter, and blends together with it.

This is also good technique if you have hooded eyes, just extend the shadows so that they show up a bit.

Banana:

This technique can make your eyes  appear wider, and your lid “longer”.

Whole inner part:

This one isn’t for everyone, it easily makes you look angry, or your eyebrows look too heavy.
But you might want to try it, maybe with lighter colors.

 Just crease:

With dark color neatly on the crease you can deepen your crease a lot, make your
eyes look more deeper. If you add some light color to your lid, your lid looks bigger.

 Whole lid:

Depending on the color your using, this might be the most dramatic of these styles.
Be careful if you use bright colors, especially if you don’t want to draw too much attention to your eyes.

____

Please remember, that everyone has different eye shape, head shape, nose shape, and that all affects one way or the other to the makeup.
So don’t get depressed if some makeup style doesn’t fit you, just move on to the next style. Eventually you’ll find your own!

Arabic makeup

It is dramatic but still wearable, at least for me. I’ve used warm metallic shades  . Hope you will enjoy it.

Step 1 :
Prime your eyes. Apply a thin layer of an
eyeshadow base on your eye as your e/s stick
better and for less fallout, especially if you’re
using mineral e/s.  After that apply Purple Sparkle
by
Femi Cosmetics over your crease with a
MAC 217 or any other doomed brush.

Step 2 :
On the tear duct apply a light golden e/s from
120 e/s palette 3rd edition. Next is a golden e/s
called Metallic Golden Russ followed by Metallic
Sunset both by Femi Cosmetics. Blend them slightly.

 Step 3 :
On the lower lash line apply Emerald Green
by Femi Cosmetics. Line your eyes like that
with gel eyeliner or whatever is more comfortable
for you. After that add some matte black e/s
in the crease. Blend it into purple. Highlight
your brow bone.

Step 4 :
Curl your lashes and apply mascara. I recommend
using false eyealshes as well for a really dramatic
look.  I’ve added some Crystal Ice by Femi Cosmetics
between my 2 wings in the outer corner of my eye,
but you can skip that 🙂 You’re done!

6.

You will need the following products: a matte black base (Blacktrack fluidline), a matte black powder eyeshadow (Carbon eyeshadow), a matte highlight that’s similar to your skintone (Performance eyeshadow), another matte highlight that’s similar to your skintone, but darker than the one before (Malt eyeshadow), a black eye kohl (Graphblack technakohl, Blacktrack fluidline) and [optionally] a shimmery silver or black eyeshadow if you want a shimmery look (Silver Ring eyeshadow).

You will need the following tools: a separate brush or sponge-tip applicator to use with the black base (like the 252), a blending brush for the black shadow (cheap Target brush), and a blending brush for the highlight colors (Philosophy blending brush). To clean up fall-out, using a cosmetic remover wipe works best and is easiest to quickly eradicate the black fall out underneath the eyes.

undefined
Using a firm, flat brush, pick up just a dab of Blacktrack fluidline. This is all we are going to use for one entire eye, and yes, it will really be enough. A little goes a long way, and it is better to start small and add as required rather than deal with an overabundance of product!

undefined
Begin applying Blacktrack fluidline as your base on the inner portion of your lid. You want to place the brush as pictured and pull the color upwards and outwards to begin covering the lower part of your lid. You want to make sure you establish some sort of shape, whatever your preference in. I prefer something similar to the curvature of my natural eye. Do your best to make it fairly curved, but it does not have to be perfect – a few imperfections will disappear through the process.

You have applied most of the product initially on the brush, and you will spend the next few steps spreading it out by pulling the color upward and outward from the middle portion of your lower lid.

Continue covering your lid in Blacktrack fluidline by making sure to color your outer lid as well.

Pulling the color upwards and outwards will cause the color to look faded and streaky. This occurs and is expected, but is easily remedied by simply brushing downwards once you have pulled the color the appropriate height. You can also gently pat the color back into a smoother place.

This is the positioning of your brush when you are patting color into place or if you wanted to pull your brush downwards to ensure a flat surface, rather than a streaky one, as mentioned in the previous step.

This is what your finished product should look like.

Using a separate blending brush, pick up Carbon eyeshadow. You may need to return and pick up more of the black shadow as you work on the look.

In a similar fashion as applying the base, start packing on Carbon eyeshadow all over the black portion of your lid.

You want to make sure you get the shadow on all of your base, because it helps the eyeshadow and the base to set.

You want to go all the way to the edges, and if you go over, that’s perfectly okay!

Keep your brush at this angle as you apply Carbon eyeshadow to the outer edge of the base. This will help you be more precise with application and keep you in the same line as the base itself.

undefined
To help soften some of the line, gently swish your brush back and forth over the outer edge.

It will take a few times before you see the edge soften. Do not spend forever doing this, because we will help soften the edge further using our highlights.

Using a separate brush for the highlighter colors, pick up Performance eyeshadow with your brush.

Apply Performance eyeshadow directly underneath your brow onto your browbone. You want to place it towards the inner portion of your brow.

Gently slide your brush over the space beneath your eyebrow as you make your way towards the outer portion of the brow.

You can choose to continue using Performance eyeshadow, or you can use a slightly darker color like Malt eyeshadow. Keeping the brush at the pictured angle, cover the very outermost edge of black with Malt eyeshadow. Do not worry about all the fall out on the black eyeshadow – it is such a cinch to fix.

Gently brush the black shadow into the highlighter colors to help soften the harsh edge of black.

Using the brush you used to apply Carbon eyeshadow, hold it horizontally against your lid, along the outer portion of the black shadow and brush upwards and outwards, to help create a gray area that creates a gradient of black to highlight.

undefined
Gently swish the brush along the curve of the outermost edge of the black shadow.

undefined
This is what you should have when the eye is closed.

undefined
This is what you should have when the eye is open.

I prefer the shadow to go higher, so I am using my brush from applying Carbon to help heighten the black portion of the shadow by repeating the previous steps.

undefined
Similarly acting out the steps before, only this time increasing the amount of black space.

undefined
Using the brush you used to apply Carbon eyeshadow, pick up a touch of the black shadow and hold your brush horizontally against your outer lower lash line. Gently dab the brush against the outermost portion of your lower lash line and then carefully move it towards the inside of your lash line, but ensure that you stop one third to one half of the way.

This is what it should look like. You can clean up as you go, or you can clean up when you are finished (there is a fairly prominent stray black line underneath the lower lash line that will be cleaned up).

undefined
I find that kohl pencil liners are easy to use, but Blacktrack fluidline is fabulous for staying on the waterline. Both Graphblack technakohl and Blacktrack fluidline will give the same dark, black liner, though. I take my technakohl and dip the tip into Blacktrack fluidline, just to get a touch of the fluidline.

I apply the fluidline I had picked up with the technakohl liner by starting in the middle of my lower lash line and moving outwards in both directions, continually sliding back and forth over my lower lash line and lower waterline.

Add mascara of your choice, curl lashes if desired, and your eyes are finished. To complete the look, minimize focus on cheeks and lips by using a light-handed blush like Pearl Sunshine beauty powder and a deeper contouring color to dramatize features. Lips are best if left in either neutral or nude shades, but a slight pink or coral coloring will not destroy the look.

If you wanted a shimmery black shadow look, then read the following four steps.

Using your blending brush, pick up a shimmery black or silver eyeshadow like Black Tied eyeshadow or Silver Ring eyeshadow. Since I do not have Black Tied, I will be using Silver Ring. If you have a shimmery black shadow, you can simply apply that on top and you really do not need to do more.

This is what it looks like after you’ve applied Silver Ring shadow.

undefined
Using the brush you used to apply Carbon eyeshadow, pick up more of it and apply all over lid; make sure to cover the silver portions.

This is what it should look like – a bit more shimmery than before. Alternately, you can use a shimmery base and a matte black shadow to achieve the same effect. For my typical shimmery smokey eye, I use Silver pigment as my base, which has plenty of shimmer in it.

Smokey Eye Makeup Guide Step 1:

Choose your eye shadow colors.

The traditional smokey eye makeup colors are, of course, black or grey.

You are however not limited to these color choices, you can also use less intense colors such as: violet, chocolate, coffee, dark pink, copper, dark green, dark blue or purple.

Remember when choosing eye shadow shades that colors should be chosen keeping in mind your eye color, hair color and skin tone and not the color of the clothes you wear. For smokey eye makeup you will need to choose 2 color coordinated eye shadows. A darker feature color and a lighter supporting color.

For Brown eyes, in addition to black or grey, copper, coffee, and brown will give you a great smokey eye effect.

Once you have chosen your feature eye shadow color you need to choose your supporting eye shadow color. If you prefer to use single eye shadows, rather than a color coordinated duo or triple eye shadow, choose a light color eye shadow that matches your feature eye shadow color. Possible colors to choose from, for a soft sophisticated look, are: lilac, light peach, champagne, taupe, nude or a sand color. For a more dramatic high contrast look you could use a whitish color eye shadow.

Smokey eye makeup tip: Use powdery eye shadows. Do not use creamy texture eye shadows as they are more difficult to smudge and blend.

mokey Eye Makeup Guide Step 2: Choose your eyeliner pencil.

Choose a soft eyeliner pencil of the same color or a complementary shade to your feature eye shadow.

Smokey eye makeup tip: If possible choose a Powderliner eyeliner pencil. They are easier to blend and are sometimes available with a sponge tip for easy blending.

Smokey eye makeup tip: Never use liquid eyeliner. Liquid eyeliners are better for sharper lines, not a soft and sultry finish.

Smokey Eye Makeup Guide Step 3: Apply your foundation base.

Normally you would apply your full foundation before applying your eye makeup. This is not the case when doing smokey eye makeup. You should apply your eye makeup first, that way if you get some of your eye shadow on the rest of your face you won’t ruin your foundation. This also helps avoid a raccoon eye look under your eye. For smoother eye shadow application, that lasts longer, you do however want to first apply a thin layer of foundation to your eyelids followed by a thin layer of face powder to set the foundation. This will give you a clean canvas for your eye shadow and will also help to prevent the eye shadow from creasing. This will also give you more even, accurate, eye shadow application.

Smokey Eye Makeup Guide Step 4: Apply your eyeliner.

Line both the top and bottom rims of your eyes with your eyeliner pencil.Typically you would use a black or charcoal eyeliner pencil but you can also use a dark eyeliner pencil that matches your feature eye shadow color.

Make sure to go into the eyelash line itself (near the root of your eyelashes). Be sure to fill in any bare spaces between the eyelashes.

Smokey Eye Makeup Apply your eyeliner

Start from the inner corner of your eyes with a fine line.As you go outwards towards the corner of your eye make the line heavier.

If you have any hard lines from using a heavy eyeliner pencil you will want to lightly smudge the line so it is softer and less harsh looking.

This step is made a lot easier by using a Powderliner eyeliner pencil with a built in sponge tip for smudging.

Smokey eye makeup tip: Dark colors tend to make small eyes look even smaller. You can open your eyes up by applying eyeliner starting from the middle of the bottom eyelash line, rather than the inside corner, and going to the outer corner of the eye. If your eyes are not smallish feel free to apply the eyeliner from corner to corner.

Smokey Eye Makeup Guide Step 5: Apply your eye shadows

Using your larger eye shadow brush apply your supporting eye shadow color to your eyelids, up to the base of your eyebrows. Now, using your feature eye shadow color, and your small eye shadow brush, apply your dark feature eye shadow onto the eyeliner and then blend it upward to the crease of your eyelid.

When blending your feature eye shadow keep as much of the color intensity as possible along the eyelash line and particularly in the outer corners of your eyes.

Smokey eye makeup tip: Remember smudge and blend so the eyeliner and eye shadows go together seamlessly.

Smokey Eye Makeup Guide Step 6: Apply your mascara

Smokey eye makeup tip: Curl your eyelashes before applying mascara, this opens your eyes up.

Apply 2 or 3 coats of black mascara applying the mascara in thin coats to avoid clumping.

Smokey Eye Makeup Guide Step 7: Complete your smokey eye makeup look

Complete your foundation being careful not to mess up your beautiful smokey eyes.

Keeping your lips neutral gives smokey eyes their real impact. Use a flesh toned lip pencil and a pink or caramel shade of lipstick or lip gloss to give your lips a subtle finish.

For your eyebrows you can use your normal eyebrow pencil. You could also use a shade darker than normal to complement your smokey eyes.

Apply a subtle finish of rose or tawny blusher just to the apples of your cheeks blending away to the edges into your hairline. This finishes the face without competing with your smoldering smokey eyes.

Enjoy your sexy, smoldering smokey eye makeup look!
